Chapter 5388
Chapter 5385: An Affair Brought To Light
After readying her, Evelynn brought Frostrose to the other sisters outside the council and let her get grilled first.
However, they were much more receptive, not minding that they had acted in secret.
Evelynn expected as much since Davis had gotten a free pass after he had earned so many merits, the foremost being overturning the Desolate Era and even bringing in the Golden Era. She had heard they had been actually ready to invite new sisters if he had come back with one or two of them from the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm, so it had been really surprising for them to hear he didn’t take any.
Honestly, Evelynn couldn’t understand why Frostrose would think Shirley would be disappointed.
After all, she, Isabella, and Shirley had all intended to let their beast companions sleep with Davis in the first place so they could be together for the rest of their lives. She wanted Hexena. Isabella wanted Mira. Shirley naturally wanted Flamerose and Frostrose by her side as well.
Hence, it was bound to happen. Flamerose and Frostrose should also be able to guess this outcome, and Shirley could’ve guided them. But they were seniors and benefactors, so Shirley had been unable to say anything to them. After all, female phoenixes were noble and conducted themselves virtuously, so Shirley couldn’t just go and say that they should marry her husband openly.
It might make their relationship awkward and shatter their bond.
So Shirley had waited all this long for them to fall for Davis naturally, but the two phoenixes barely showed any inclinations and had never acted on them in the past, leaving her confused. Although she was playful, she wasn’t the type to bring in women and recommend them either. In truth, she was prideful and enjoyed being the shiniest swan in the lake. She wouldn’t lower her head to other women to ask for favors.
Isabella had once asked her if she wanted to be an Empress, but Shirley said she wanted to be a Princess for an eternity.
That was the kind of person Shirley was, not too authoritative but never letting go of her pride while treating everyone in the harem with fairness.
Hence, Evelynn still couldn’t understand why Frostrose would think Shirley would be disappointed. It made her wonder if their relationship as blood inheritors wasn’t as solid as she imagined in the first place, unlike what she shared with Hexena and Mira.
Evelynn felt it was an excuse to hide bringing Flamerose into the fray, but it didn’t seem so simple.
She waited for Shirley to arrive before the council.
Eventually, Shirley arrived with Flamerose in hand. The latter seemed out of it, as she had her head lowered, not willing to see anyone.
Frostrose instantly knelt, also lowering her head.
Ellia and the others looked at each other, feeling the atmosphere turn quite awkward.
It must be known that the Davis Family was indebted to these twin phoenixes in the early stages when the Davis Family was still in its infancy. These two phoenixes supported them so much, and even allowed Shirley to sacrifice her primal yin to a dying husk like Davis had once been.
They still treated these two as seniors, so it was a bit awkward to see them act in this manner.
Shirley first reached Evelynn and whispered into her ear about something.
Evelynn also responded and then asked why Frostrose would feel she would be disappointed.
"Ah... that... these two weren’t going to confess to darling even if I asked, so I dropped hints- a lot of hints- and finally hit the nail on the coffin when I said I would be angered if people I trust did something behind my back, which is true. You know- phoenixes are quite prideful, and they are not above faltering, just like humans. They want what they can’t have or shouldn’t have~" Shirley giggled softly.
"..." Evelynn went speechless.
"Shirley..." She said with some exasperation, "You know more about phoenixes than us, sure, but you aren’t good at manipulating... don’t try it again..."
"You think so too?" Shirley pouted, "No wonder they didn’t take any action for so long~ I just wanted them to think they aren’t in my control since I have grown stronger than them, so the only way to take back control is to level the playing field, which means them marrying Davis~"
Evelynn blinked, "Your thought process is so rich. It must be more colorful than Zenova’s."
"Big sis!~" Shirley cried softly.
She couldn’t tell if she was being complimented or mocked.
"You did good." Evelynn suppressed a giggle and grabbed her hands, "At the very least, it had the effect you wanted, so it can be considered a success. Only, it brought a lot of trouble and hurt the twins themselves. You need to be responsible for them."
"Of course~ Leave it to me~"
Shirley patted her bosom with confidence.
She felt once the deed was done, everything was easy to conclude.
She stepped forward out of the corner and then announced, "Everyone, I have an announcement to make. It has come to light that our benefactor Frostrose here has been secretly rendezvousing with our husband and engaging in a steamy affair for quite some time. Today, they crossed the line, evident from the fact that Frostrose became a Level Seven Empyrean Beast while her twin sister Flamerose is still a Level Four Empyrean Beast. The difference in their levels tells numerous tales, but Frostrose herself is here to confess her sins, so let’s hear her out."
Clamor erupted in the Harem Council.
Beauties like Zenova, Jade, and Xiu Juili were completely out of the loop. They knew little about these twin birds or their significance, so it was like a new story for them.
Zenova looked fairly amused and intrigued.
She looked as though she was waiting to hear this kind of story in the palace.
There was no sight of Davis here.
He wasn’t allowed into the Harem Council unless he was required to enter. However, there was nothing stopping him from viewing it through Evelynn’s lens, her third eye, unless it was Evelynn herself.
Davis sat in some remote corner of the mansion as he swayed in a swing ever so lightly, viewing the proceedings with a heavy heart.
He was worried for Frostrose because he genuinely loved her.
He hoped that they wouldn’t shame her, or he would be forced to intervene.
Naturally, he wanted to soothe Flamerose as well because she was such an awesome senior sister figure whom he could trust. He cared about her. He still remembered how cute and explosive Zahara was before she became more dignified as Flamerose. However, it still didn’t bring out passionate emotions towards her as he had for Frostrose.
He just hoped she wouldn’t be hard on Frostrose. He also felt responsible since he allowed Flamerose to witness the shocking scene.
He was starting to feel like he had made a mistake by trying to hasten and bring Frostrose home.
"Master, what’s wrong? Are you feeling sick?"
Davis came out of his reverie and raised his head to see a maid placing the back of her hand over his forehead while her huge bosoms hovered right before his gaze.
He froze ever so lightly, letting her check before she moved her hand away and revealed her cold and expressionless face.
"It doesn’t seem like it, so is it a mental affliction?" Esvele inclined her head in doubt, "If it’s not that, then is it something dangerous? I can’t imagine Master worrying over mundane matters, so it must be some premonition of danger. Am I right...?"
She asked without a single change in her expression, yet her eyes were vivid and curious.
