Mingzhi looked at Davis and gently slapped his arm.

"Why are you sending a small message like that? Are you going to wait ten to twenty minutes for her response and then another ten to twenty minutes for her to hear your response? Don’t you have more duties to fulfill?"

Davis turned to gaze at Mingzhi, "The wait is necessary."

He said in a slow and calm voice.

Mingzhi went speechless. She smilingly glared at him, "You rogue. You really want to play with a maiden’s heart now? If she has some feelings for you, I can imagine her being nervous for the entire duration."

Davis sat reclined on his seat, simply relaxed.

He was much more open with the mature Mingzhi, who would both understand him and curse him. As fellow Heart Intent users, they were constantly unrevealing each other, but at the same time, were husband and wife. There was unity between the conflict. He would say they were a quintessential Chinese couple shown in old dramas, which felt a bit ironic because he was no longer Chinese.

Not that it mattered to him, since his Chinese qualities were nearly nonexistent anyway; he had traveled the world after ending Mingzhi’s father and had no friends to speak of in the homeland. He had picked up all kinds of traits and cultures, but failed to integrate into any. He could have the world in his palms if he had wanted to, but he didn’t. All he wanted was a connection, while denying it for a better future in another world. Such self-inflicted loneliness was his own fault, yet it paid off.

Now, he had a vast family he was proud of and was pretty much content, like he had accomplished everything already.

This kind of relaxing mindset made Davis want to let himself go free for some time, as Mingzhi stated before. There was really no one blocking him other than his own original heart, while his Will was like a fiend that wanted him to make the world his and enjoy it to his heart’s content.

This set of conflicting emotions was why any Heart Intent user who arrived at this point or even earlier would go crazy.

"Mingzhi, I’ve suppressed myself enough. Any more, and I think I might go on a tangent in unforeseen ways if I continue doing this to myself. I don’t know if it’s losing to my own Will or whatever, but my Will is also me. I need to smother it in the right way and not abandon it." Davis said his thoughts out loud while still thinking.

"..." Mingzhi pursed her lips.

"You have Jade. You have Juili. They’re waiting for you, so what’s the point in going after strangers?"

"Precisely." Davis said as though it was a matter of fact, "It’s because they’re my wives whom I love and accept in my heart. I don’t want to harm them with my current strange inclinations. More than anything, they made it clear that they want a proper marriage. How could I be baring my fangs against them?"

Mingzhi nodded slightly. Jade and Juili indeed did show such inclinations. They didn’t participate in the recent Harem Council conjugal voting session as well, wanting to sleep with Davis alone for the first time. Their emotions were pure, and they wanted their romantic dreams fulfilled like most maidens. There was no point in Davis shoving his strange desires onto them.

She understood that he didn’t want to harm his wives as that would make it messier than having fun outside.

Mingzhi narrowed her eyes, "Do you want to have a Mistress outside the home? Is she going to be your first?"

She glanced at the pylon and asked him.

Davis’s lips curled, "Though I don’t have any Jiayi Crystalveil in my immediate reach, I still have someone. Guess?"

Mingzhi’s lips parted, "You bastard... how could you?"

Davis put his hands over his head and reclined comfortably, even leisurely, "It’s not like I want to have a Mistress. She’s just not coming to me even if I want her to. It’s troubling me."

"..." Mingzhi blinked, "Who is it? I might have some inkling, but there are just too many wonderful women who are damn smitten with you to count."

Davis lowered his Heart Intent defenses in response, letting Mingzhi investigate him all she wanted. Her Heart Intent crashed into him like a tidal wave, possessive and angry.

He smilingly uttered, "We have been intimate a bit more than a kiss, but we haven’t gone all the way yet. I’m going to see her after talking to Jiayi Crystalveil."

"Oh." Only then did Mingzhi calm down a bit.

She would’ve been pissed if he had cheated on the harem by not telling them. She then inclined her head confusedly.

’Wait, the standards of what I would consider cheating in my marriage have fallen so low...?’ Her brows raised wide, wondering when this psyop happened. But on second thought, she understood that being in an Emperor’s harem, there was no concept of cheating for the Emperor, as the world was supposedly his to rule.

Her hair was no longer black as the night. Instead, it had turned white as the moon. She still possessed pale-gray skin like an undead, but her body was gently shrouded in faint wisps of dark fog. Her pair of strange golden eyes with swirls looked as though they were a vortex leading to the abyss.

Nightveil, whose true name was Iris Serenity, had long ceased being a Dynastic Evernight Phantasm Spirit since she had become an Abyssal Vortex-Eye Phantasm Spirit.

In terms of overall power, her species was ranked third in the Darkness-Attributed Heaven-Tier Spirit Chart of Empyrean Grade. She was as powerful as a Celestial Spirit in some cases!
